Junior Environmental Engineer

KimHEC Environmental Consulting (a woman-owned firm based out of St. Louis) takes pride in bridging the gap and building relationships between wastewater utilities and industrial users. KimHEC helps utilities implement integrated Industrial Pretreatment Programs (including FOG Management Programs), managing and analyzing data, performing industrial audits, and other compliance assistance activities related to protecting communities and water resources. Key duties of the entry-level engineer will be:

  • Implementing Industrial Pretreatment Programs and meeting other client needs as requested
  • Data Management using Excel, Power BI, and our web application (DROP)
  • Creating templates and resources to assist our clients 
  • Conducting data evaluations of wastewater data 
  • Writing or reviewing reports and industrial user permits
  • Review and update of legal authority for industrial discharges
  • Conducting inspections and other site visits
  • Tracking project needs and deadlines
  • Collaborate with other wastewater professionals to find data-driven solutions
  • Some travel required
  • Public speaking (presentations at conferences and to clients and their industrial users)

Qualifications

  • Entry level with some previous intern experience
  • Certified EIT (passed the FE exam)
  • An interest in working in the wastewater field is essential
  • The ability to solve problems using critical thinking
  • A positive attitude in all working conditions is key
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail
  • Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined
  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within the KimHEC team, partners, and clients
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, site visits, inspections, conferences, and more, including some overnight travel
  • Ability to use both Microsoft and Google platforms
  • Familiarity with database use/management
  • Technical writing skills are necessary for this position

Education

  • BS or MS in an engineering discipline (chemical, environmental, civil)
  • Coursework of Interest:
    • GIS
    • Environmental Law
    • Environmental engineering (wastewater, water quality)
    • Hydraulics
    • Coding (MATLAB, C-Sharp, SQL)
    • Statistics 

Start date: Full-time January 2024 (with ability to intern part-time virtually sooner)
